These pumpkin color-matching clip cards are the perfect fall activity for preschoolers. In addition to being completely adorable, they also help build color recognition and fine motor skills.

Suggested Materials & Process For The Pumpkin Color Clip Cards
The article below contains affiliate links.
- Printer Paper or Card Stock (if not laminating)
- Laminating Sheets (optional)
- Mini Rainbow Clothes Pins (because rainbows are always more exciting and these are dirt cheap too!)
- Epson Eco Tank (for anyone printing from home who is tired of spending a fortune on ink)
To use these clip cards, simply print, cut, and go. The cards print 4 to a page, so you’ll be able to separate them pretty quickly. If you are printing on card stock, I don’t recommend stacking more than 2 pages at a time while cutting.

If you don’t care about saving these, using card stock is the easiest option because you can use them right away. Plain printer paper is not sturdy enough to support the clothes pins, so you will have to laminate the cards if you’re using that type of paper.
Laminating will allow you to save this activity from year to year and also allow for different marking options, as described in the adaptations section below.
When using the cards, students will be matching the colored circles to the bucket color, not the pumpkin color. You can make these clip cards self-checking by adding a small colored sticker on the back of the correct answer.

Variations on This Activity
Instead of using these cards with individual kids, you can have students work in pairs or groups. For a paired activity kids can decide on the answer together.
Then, they can each place 1 clip on the correct answer (or take turns placing a clip on every other card). This is a good method if you have a struggling student who may benefit from peer modeling.
For groups, print 2-3 copies of the activity. Aim for 1 set of cards per 2 students. Then, spread all the cards out on the table and allow the children to choose random cards individually. This method allows kids to work on their own if they are able but gives them an easy opportunity to ask a peer for help if needed.

Adapting For Special Needs
All of our clip card activities already come in multiple difficulty levels. You can choose to use the cards with either 2 or 3 answer choices. We also provide individual color cards for kids who need to answer via eyegaze.
If you have kids with muscle tone issues, try using regular-sized clothes pins that may be easier to grasp. Another alternative is using a dry-erase marker, bingo dauber, or dot marker to have them mark the correct color. Of course, with this option, the cards will need to be laminated so you can wipe them down and reuse them.
Even with a bingo dauber, some kids may need additional support such as these adaptive handle grips. If the circles are simply too small for your students to mark, you can always lay the eye gaze color cards out on the table and have them touch the correct answer instead.
